Data safety

Google Play and the App Store each show a short privacy summary for every app. This page gives HeedHome's answers in full sentences, with the reasons. The store cards are too small to explain why.
On this page
The short version
- Your information stays on your phone. There is no HeedHome account and no HeedHome server holding your data.
- No data is shared with third parties. Nothing is sold and nothing is used for advertising.
- Data that does leave your phone is encrypted in transit.
- You can delete everything yourself, at Settings → Delete everything.
What is collected
Google defines "collected" as data sent off your phone by the app, including by code from other companies inside it. On that definition HeedHome collects two things.
| Data type | Who receives it | Why | Optional? |
|---|---|---|---|
| App info and performance (diagnostics, other performance data) and Device or other IDs | Google, through ML Kit, on Android only | Analytics. ML Kit is Google's on-phone text and barcode reader. It reports the phone model, Android version, app version, scan timings, image size and format, error codes and a scanning-session identifier, so Google can measure and improve it. Never the picture and never the text it read. | Sent only when you use the scanner |
| Purchase history | RevenueCat, which manages Pro purchases for us | App functionality: knowing whether you have Pro. Linked to a random identifier the app creates, not to your name or email | Only once you open the Pro screen (to show prices, buy or restore Pro) |
What is not collected, and why
Google is clear that data processed only on your phone is not "collected". Neither is data you choose to send straight to your own cloud storage, as long as the app's maker never receives it. That covers almost everything HeedHome does:
- Your things, dates, history, notes and household members' names. Stored in the app's database on your phone.
- Photos. ID photos are read on the phone and deleted right away. Label and receipt photos are kept on the phone only if you choose.
- Document details. From a passport or license we keep only the expiry date, never the name, number, address or date of birth.
- Cloud backups. They go from your phone to your own Google Drive or iCloud Drive. We never receive or read them.
- Backup files. Created on your phone and sent only where you choose.
- Your Google account email, if you connect Google Drive. It stays on your phone so Settings can show which account is connected.
- Reminders. Scheduled by your phone; no reminder goes through a server.
And never, in any form: location, contacts, calendar, messages, microphone or audio, web browsing, installed apps, advertising ID, or face and fingerprint data.
Sharing
HeedHome does not share data with third parties. Google ML Kit's statistics go to Google as the maker of that component, and Google states that it does not pass them to anyone else. RevenueCat processes purchase records on our behalf only, which Google's form does not count as sharing. Payments go to Apple or Google directly; we never see card details.
Security practices
- Encrypted in transit. Everything that leaves the phone (ML Kit statistics, purchase records, cloud backups) travels over HTTPS.
- Protected at rest by your phone's own encryption and screen lock.
- Optional app lock with Face ID, a fingerprint or your phone's passcode (Settings → Privacy).
- Deletion is in your hands. Settings → Delete everything erases the app's data on your phone, and can delete your cloud backups too. We hold no copy to delete.
- Backup files are not encrypted. Store or send them as carefully as the information in them.
Apple's App Privacy label
On iPhone, text is read by Apple's Vision framework, which sends nothing, so the ML Kit row above does not apply. The App Store label is:
- Data not linked to you: Purchases (purchase history), used for app functionality.
- Data used to track you: none.
- Data linked to you: none.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | When it is used |
|---|---|
| Camera | Only when you scan a document, label or receipt. Photos are read on the phone. |
| Notifications | To remind you before things are due |
| Face ID / fingerprint | Only if you turn on the app lock. Your phone checks it; the app never sees it. |
| Internet | Cloud backup, Google sign-in and purchases. The rest of the app works offline. |
The app asks for the camera the first time you scan, and for notifications on a screen that first explains what reminders do. Saying no leaves everything else working. HeedHome does not ask for the microphone, and on Android it does not ask for access to your photos or files: you pick a folder or file through the phone's own picker, one at a time.
